The Year In Bravo: The Mashups, The Mishaps, And So Many Memes

Even a drunken rant can’t bring Bravo superstar Andy Cohen down. After the TV personality went viral for spewing vitriol towards Ryan Seacrest and Bill de Blasio on CNN‘s New Year’s Eve celebration, rumors began to spread that he had been fired from the network over the controversy. The rumors are false, though, says a spokesperson from CNN who confirmed that Cohen will return for 2022.

“I can confirm that Andy will be back next year,” the spokesperson told Deadline.

The main rant was against outgoing New York Mayor Bill de Blasio. In a clip that was shared widely the next morning, Cohen shreds the former government official, thanking his lucky stars that 2022 will bring in new mayor Eric Adams.

“Watching Mayor de Blasio do his ‘victory lap’ dance after four years of the crappiest job as the mayor of New York,” Cohen said during the Friday night (Dec. 31) broadcast. “The only thing that Democrats and Republicans can agree on is what a horrible mayor he has been. Sayonara, sucka.”

He went even further, slamming the New Year’s Eve festivities over at NBC that featured Ryan Seacrest as a host. “If you look behind me, you will see Ryan Seacrest’s group of losers performing,” Cohen said. “If you’re watching ABC, you’re watching nothing.”

While Cohen has since shared that he was “overserved” during the NYE festivities, he only regrets his comments on Seacrest: “I slammed the ABC broadcast and I really like Ryan Seacrest, and he is a great guy, and I really regret saying that. I was just stupid and drunk and feeling it,” he said on his SiruisXM show Radio Andy yesterday (Jan. 3). He said that he “felt bad about that.”

🌧 good morning! 🌧. Um, I was a bit overserved last night…. 🥴

Cohen has hosted CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live with Anderson Cooper since 2017, taking over for Kathy Griffin after she faced backlash for a photo with Donald Trump’s mock severed head. Griffin still seems to be upset about Cohen subbing in for her: “It’s midnight here in oceanfront Malibu, so I’m commencing my yearly allotted 24 hours of bitterness. I’m not going to say why. I’m being very coy about it. Happens every year on New Year’s Eve. I’m not even going to say if it’s related to y’know, television. I’m too private :)”

You’ll have to try to get your revenge next year, Kathy!
